Michael Oehl

Dr. Michael Oehl is acting head of the research group Human-Machine Integration (HMI) at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Transportation Systems in Braunschweig and Berlin, Germany. The research group is devoted to future user-centered human-machine interaction and interface design. In this context the group is coordinating major international research projects, e.g., interACT (within EU-H2020), or participating in major national research programs, e.g., @City in Germany, focusing on safe cooperative interactions of connected automated vehicles with other traffic participants in urban mixed traffic. Additionally, Michael is adjunct senior lecturer for Traffic Psychology at the German Police University. Michael has a strong background in Human Factors as well as Engineering and Traffic Psychology. He studied psychology at the University of Konstanz, RWTH Aachen University and received his PhD from Leuphana University of Lüneburg. Among other scholarships he was a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellow at the Cognitive Systems Engineering Lab at the University of Tokyo. Michael’s current research interests focus on human factors, especially emotional and UX aspects, within human-machine systems in terms of intelligent and adaptive human-machine interfaces in automated vehicles taking inclusive design and cross-cultural aspects into consideration. Michael is a member of the HFES Europe Chapter since 10 years.
